About Dr. Sam Most

Dr. Sam Most is Chief of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he is also a Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and Plastic Surgery (by courtesy).

He completed his undergraduate work with High Honors at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, followed by attending Stanford University School of Medicine, where he graduated with Dean’s Honors in Research. He completed residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery as well as his fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. Following this he was appointed Chief of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the same institution. He was recruited to lead the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford in 2006.

Dr. Most has chaired multiple national and international meetings, including the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) Aging Face Meeting (2014) and Advances in Rhinoplasty Meeting (2017). He has served two times on the AAFPRS Board, most recently as Vice President of Research and Development. He has also served on the board of the Rhinoplasty Society, and is a past-President. He has won multiple awards from various professional societies, including the Ben Shuster and Mark Rafaty (twice) awards from the AAFPRS as well as the Samuel Stal Memorial Award from The Rhinoplasty Society.

Dr. Most has published over 200 papers and book chapters, as well as 3 monographs on Rhinoplasty and two textbooks. The most recent is Comprehensive Rhinoplasty: Structural and Preservation Concepts (Quality Medical Publishers, St. Louis).

Based in Palo Alto, Dr. Most sees patients from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose, San Francisco, the Peninsula, and surrounding communities. As a surgeon from Stanford, he combines academic leadership with specialized rhinoplasty expertise to provide personalized care and long-term results.

Outside the OR

When not operating or teaching, Dr. Most enjoys reading, running, fly fishing, spending time with his family, and learning to play the guitar.
